Volleyball Reform

With the demand for volleyball marketization, the FIVB has made a major reform to the volleyball rules after years of research. Around 1998, in order to enhance its appeal, indoor volleyball began to make some rule improvements.
First, the serve scoring system was changed to a per-ball scoring system: this was to facilitate the control of TV broadcast time and the need to score points on defense. In the past, points could only be scored when the team served, but now the receiving team can also score when the serving team wins. The time for TV broadcasts has also been shortened accordingly, reducing the time for the serving team to fail to score and change serves.
Secondly, the score of each game has been changed accordingly. That is, the score of each game in the first four games is 25 points, and the score of the last game is 15 points. If the score of the first four games is 24-all, and the score of the fifth game is 14-all, the team that must score more than the opponent by 2 points wins. There is no cap on the score of each game, that is, it can continue indefinitely until a team wins by 2 points.
The third item is to set two technical timeouts in each game, the purpose of which is to insert TV commercials, thereby enhancing the advantages of commercial operation of volleyball games and fully reflecting the interests of sponsors. This reform is conducive to the global promotion of volleyball events.
The fourth item is the establishment of "liberos", which is to further improve the viewing experience of volleyball games, increase the number of offensive and defensive rounds in volleyball games, strengthen defense, change the tendency of strong offense and weak defense, and make the game more exciting. Each team has a "back row free defender", who wears a shirt of a different color from his teammates and can replace any player in the back row, but is not allowed to serve, spike or participate in the front court attack.
